1. Ed McCarvey said I have a problem with Bill Russell, his stance on illegal immigration is to issue them brown cards and allow them to remain in America. All we need is to have another GOP Rep turn against the will of the people and issue amnesty. Now Russell says, I support tough border enforcement measures, and the prosecution of employers who hire illegal immigrants.1
2. William Russell talks a lot about a permanent ban on earmarks, ending a culture of waste and
unaccountable spending. The reform would require that all taxpayer
spending be subject to the committee process and a vote on the House
floor. All spending should be on the books and on the public record. But his campaign manager is a lobbyist. She has lobbyied Congressman Murtha for money for her organization.2
3. On December 10, 2007, William Russell said, "We as Republicans hold ourselves to a higher standard." Now, Russell has had a complaint filed with the Federal Elections Commission, has been on political talk shows while on active duty, and is being investigated by the Army and the Pentagon.3
4. Russell's campaign manager, Peg Luksik on running for Congress said,
If you run for Congress, you're one of 435, and while we have some
wonderful Congressmen, like Ron Paul, he doesn't win his votes. And he often doesn't
even get his things introduced on the floor. And so, that's an exercise in
frustration unless you can win enough of the 435 to make a difference.
If you run for U.S. Senate, you're one of a hundred, so unless you're the
committee chair, and unless you sit on the conference committee, again you
can be easily circumvented. And at the federal level, I've been involved at
the federal level, as a lobbyist and getting legislation written, and
sometimes passed. And then it goes into the bureaucracies, and the
departments totally rewrite the regulations to gut your laws. And I
thought, "Wow, I spent two years working on this law and it was meaningless
within six months of the time we passed it."4
5.UNITEMIZED CONTRIBUTIONS: The Committee reported unitemized individual contributions of $516,328.19 on Line 11(a)(ii), Column A of the Detailed Summary Page. These are due to the number of donors whose contributions were raised as part of the committee's direct mail fundraising campaign and represent those individuals whose donations aggregate to less than $200. More than 85% of all of Russell's donations are unitemized contributions. Not even disclosing the name as required.
